The phase 1 vehicles were built in 1987-1988 by Comeng in Australia and refurbished in 2011-2014 by UGL Rail. There were 70 phase 1 vehicles when made with 1001 to 1070 as their numbers. There were 2 vehicles retired because of traffic accidents, no. 1013 was retired in 1994 with less than 7 years of operation and no. 1027 was retired in 2011 on the Mother's Day. Some of the remaining of these 2 vehicles can be seen in LRT Depot. Phase 1 vehicles share the same orange design with Phase 2 vehicles. The front of the train and seats inside are all orange. There were also orange strips on the train body. The route displays were not LED displays and there are only one on the front and one on the left side of the train. Between 1997-2000, these trains were repainted to the new KCR colours. In 2003, the route displays are replaced with LED displays, there was also an additional display on the back just to show the route number. Phase 1 vehicles share similar design on mechanic with Phase 2 vehicles, so two types of trains can be coupled for running 2-car trains. However, it is not happening now as Phase 1 vehicles have been refurbished to look like Phase 4 vehicles, the colour is mismatched. All photos are arranged from left to right and top to bottom. Some of the photos are marked as "No photo available currently", as I didn't have a chance to photograph that vehicle. Moreover, there are no not refurbished phase 1 vehicle photos in this website, only the refurbished ones.
